The New 2012 Safe Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation CALENDARS
are now available!!

We are celebrating our 5th Year Anniversary with a
"Wild & Caring" Silent/Live Auction
 Rescheduled to March 30, 2012!

Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee exacted an awful toll on Connecticut and people are facing the daunting task of rebuilding and repairing their homes and property. We cannote in good conscience ask you to attend this event when you are trying to get your lives back in order.

These powerful storms also caused an awful toll on the state's wildlife, especially squirrels, as this is the middle of fall baby squirrel season. Caring for such a large number of babies coming in at one time requires our undivided attention around the clock. This is what we are all about and this is our mission. We cannote in good conscience devote the time required to get the auction ready for October when the babies need us!

For these two reasons, we have decided to reschedule the "Wild & Caring" auction to Friday, March 30, 2012.
Please save the date and join us in March!

2010 Rescue Season

2009 Rescue Season

  • Mr. Snapper Returns Home!

  • New Photos - Release of Trotsky the opossum, our one and only squirrel this spring, and some construction photos of our Rehab Nursery remodeling in progress.

  • New Blog - Please check out our brand new Safe Haven Blog! Director Susan Dwyer will be writing a daily (or weekly when things get really hectic) blog about what is going on at Safe Haven. You will be able to see what is happening almost as soon as it happens.

  • New Office Location - We will be setting up a small office in Granby this season. Bill will be manning the office most of the time with the help of some volunteer staff. We hope to be able to accept babies that are dropped off during office hours, but that is not definite yet. Hours have yet to be determined, so stay tuned!

  • Volunteers Needed - Once a new office location is found, volunteers will be needed to help man the office from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Those that want to volunteer once we have a list created will not have to spend the entire day. Even if you only have a couple hours to spare a couple days a week, Safe Haven would love to have you as part of the team.

The office will function as an admissions point for wildlife babies, these babies will be admitted and stabilized for later transport to one of the Safe Haven rehabbers. There will be paperwork involved and a checklist to follow. Volunteers will receive training and guidance as needed.

As Safe Haven grows and expands, the future could see the need for teams to give presentations to various groups and organizations. Eventually there will be rescue teams, admission teams, transport teams, and a host of others not yet thought of, all will require volunteers.
